Book King Bookstore opened its
doors on February 9, 2009 in its present, new location under new ownership
at 11 Center Street in the beautiful, historic Tuttle building in downtown
Rutland. Prior to this, Book King had established itself as a
downtown anchor for many years on Merchants Row. First opening in
1971 by Steve Eddy on 64 Merchants Row, it moved to the Opera House in
the late 1970’s, then on to 94 Merchants Row where it stayed until
2009.
As an established landmark in the Rutland area and an
independent bookstore, Book King built its name on having strong ties to
the local community. This will continue in the new location. As
a new store with a big reputation, we want to continue the tradition of
offering the friendly, personalized service that our customers have come
to expect…. and more.
As you can see, Book King has a new website. We want to offer
you all the updated information on events, book reviews, and special offers
through this site. Book signings, poetry and reading groups as well
as Children’s story and song hours were regular events at Book King
and will continue at the new location. Keep an eye on our website
Events page for a listing of these events.
In addition, the new store is offering coffee, tea, and pastry café with
many comfortable seating areas located throughout the store. An
upstairs mezzanine that overlooks the store offers additional reading
space in an interesting “reading nook” atmosphere for customers,
and is perfect for small reading groups and gatherings. |

In the warmer weather, we will be placing tables and chairs outdoors
to enjoy your coffee and a book outside. WiFi is also available
in the new store for those who want to bring their laptops. Book
King continues to offer a wide selection of books that continue to include
many sale books.
Book King also has an expanded Christian Book section. As a Christian,
I’ve long felt the need for greater access to material in the local
community and this is something I’ve heard voiced by other Christians
as well. Our new Christian material section has a variety of topics
that include Christian Living, Biography, Children’s books, Parenting,
Study Guides and Theology, Bibles with many translations, and more.
We continue to sell greeting cards, calendars and small
gift items such as journals, book markers and book lights. Look for
this area to expand as the business grows.
