Lonely Planet Travel Guides
More than 30 years ago, Tony and Maureen Wheeler met on a bench in Regent's Park (London) and married a year later. For their honeymoon, they decided to attempt what few people thought possible - crossing Europe and Asia over land and sea (without flying), all the way to Australia.
It took them several months but they made it and at the end of it all, they listened to their friends who urged them not to keep the experience to themselves. They worked on their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap, and within a week they had sold 1500 copies.
Now, 30 years later, Lonely Planet has become a globally-loved brand of travel guides. They are now partnered with BBC Worldwide with offices in Melbourne, London, and Oakland with about 450 employees and over 200 authors.
They still live by their early motto: "All you've got to do is decide to go and the hardest part is over. So go!"
We have recently received a shipment of new Lonely Planet guides: Canada, Chicago, China, England, France, Great Britain, Greece, Israel & the Palestinian Territorie, Japan, Los Angeles/San Diego/Southern California, Montreal & Quebec City, New England, New York City, Paris, Spain, USA, and Washington DC.
What are the best places for 2012? Each year, the Lonely Planet staff comes up with a list of the top ten places to visit. For 2012, they are selected London, Muscat, Benegaluru (Bangalore), Cadiz (Spain), Stockholm, Guimaraes (Portugal), Santiago (Chili), Hong Kong, Orlando, and Darwin (Australia).
We are happy to special order a guide for you if we don't have a title you need. So just decide to go, get the books you need, and go!
